Ancient techniques of icon writing

At the icon-writing department of the Theological Academy in St. Petersburg was opened the special course of traditional icon writing techniques.

The first lesson was devoted to the Wax tempera technique. The lesson was held from January 27 to February 2, 2018. Conducted classes invited professor from Belarus – icon writer Zharov Andrei. Students are studying such unique traditional techniques: encaustic, wax tempera, casein tempera and egg-varnish tempera.

Also students get acquainted with various ancient methods of writing faces and creating icons, with connection of technology and theology of the icon.
